Excellencies,<\/p>\n
Since 2019 the implementation, monitoring and revision cycle of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development in Italy has been accompanied by the incremental design, institutionalization and facilitation of the National Forum for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n
Such a long time has been needed in order to shape a space were civil society, business actors and research entities can share positions and promote joint projects on common issues. 362 organizations are now part of the Forum. Key messages from the Forum for Sustainable Development are integral part of the VNR 2026 and have been addressed to inform the revision of the National Strategy that will take place by the end of the year.<\/p>\n
Facilitating such a process is not easy not to be taken for granted, particularly given the public administration\u2019s limited capacity to manage and facilitate open government and co-decision-making processes. It is a mutual learning process among institutions and non- state actors, which calls for an increased preparedness and collaborative attitude from both sides.<\/p>\n
Participation for sustainable development is one of the three enabling factors of the Italian National Strategy for Sustainable Development: this implies the need and opportunity to define and implement pathways able to respond to the challenges that the National Forum for Sustainable Development poses. It recalls the need for strengthening participation and democratic citizenship at local and regional levels, particularly through the processes related to territorial sustainable development strategies.<\/p>\n
While establishing a Youth Group within the Forum for sustainable development, in the last two years we have also been focusing on Yourh empowerment and active engagement. The Youth Voluntary Review Is just the first milestone in this journey, aimed at bringing young generations not to be the recipients of change, but its key players and co-authors.<\/p>\n
The integration of Intergenerational perspective into sustainability assessment of public policy is one of the main challenges that Italy is addressing, closely working with young experts and researchers.<\/p>\n
As Youth and the Forum for Sustainable Development respectively state into the YVR and the VNR, we all are committed to contribute to building a new paradigm, based on new education frameworks and culture as strategic infrastructure of transition. This requires the engagement of all of us and can only be achieved if we all acknowledge ourselves as shareholders rather than stakeholders.<\/p>\n
