Italy aligns itself with the statement of the European Union and would like to add the following remarks in its national capacity.<\/p>\n
We reaffirm the centrality of Human Rights in our foreign policy and we firmly believe in the\u00a0unique role of the Human Rights Council<\/strong>\u00a0for the promotion of human rights worldwide.<\/p>\n We fully support\u00a0the High Commissioner and his\u00a0Office, the Special Procedures – that have a \u201cstanding invitation\u201d to Italy -, the Treaty Bodies and\u00a0all\u00a0other Mechanisms.<\/p>\n We express our commitment to contributing to the efficiency of the work of the Council and\u00a0reiterate our long-standing support to all the efforts and initiatives led by the HRC Chairs aiming at ensuring a\u00a0well-functioning and well-resourced Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n We are living in times when the respect for human rights is being challenged to an unprecedented extent, and we must prioritize\u00a0the\u00a0persons\u00a0in the most vulnerable situations <\/strong>(including women, children, older persons, persons with disabilities, persons belonging to\u00a0ethnic and religious\u00a0minorities and LGBTIQ+ persons).<\/p>\n We must continue to\u00a0stand up for gender equality<\/strong>, women empowerment and women\u2019s rights,\u00a0and\u00a0fight\u00a0all forms of gender-based\u00a0discrimination and\u00a0violence,\u00a0including\u00a0harmful practices<\/strong>\u00a0such as\u00a0child, early and forced marriages<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0female genital mutilation,\u00a0<\/strong>also on the basis of\u00a0National Action Plans on Women, Peace and Security<\/strong>. Our action would not be possible without the irreplaceable role of the civil society organizations.<\/p>\n 2022 marks the\u00a025th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of the establishment of the mandate of\u00a0UN Special Representative\u00a0for Children and armed conflict: <\/strong>we\u00a0strongly reiterate our support to this mandate\u00a0and to\u00a0all other initiatives to advance\u00a0children\u2019s rights<\/strong>.<\/p>\n This year marks also 15 years since the adoption of the first GA Resolution on the universal moratorium on the use of the of death penalty and we will spare no efforts to get an ever wider support to the 9th UNGA Resolution currently under discussion.<\/p>\n Italy believes in the necessity to preserve the\u00a0rule of law<\/strong> as a way to promote peace and prevent conflicts, in accordance with SDG\u00a016<\/strong>. We also reiterate the centrality of economic, civil and social rights in the work of the Council and the importance to address\u00a0the\u00a0new emerging challenges, including the adoption of\u00a0a\u00a0human\u00a0rights based\u00a0approach to climate-action<\/strong>\u00a0and to ensure\u00a0that\u00a0human rights apply\u00a0equally\u00a0online and\u00a0offline<\/strong> and are adequately protected in the digital era.<\/p>\n Thank you.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Italy aligns itself with the statement of the European Union and would like to add the following remarks in its national capacity.
