Violence against women continues to be an obstacle to achieving equality, development, peace as well as to the fulfillment of women and girls\u2019 rights. More than 1 in 3 women experience gender-based violence during their lifetime, while sexual violence in conflicts has reemerged in all its atrocity due to the war in Ukraine and the worsening of conflicts worldwide. In 2021, nearly 1 in 5 women aged 20-24 were married before turning 18. Less than 40 per cent of women who experience violence seek help of any sort.<\/p>\n

It is high time we put an end to one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating\u00a0human rights<\/a> violations in our world today, which remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it.<\/p>\n

Empowering women, achieving gender equality and fighting violence and discriminations are the cornerstones of Italy\u2019s action both at the national and international level. This is why we increased our total financing to support UN Women, UNICEF and UNFPA\u2019s programs to fight Female Genital Mutilations and Early Child Marriages, just to mention a few of our priorities at the multilateral level.<\/p>\n

As of January 2023 I will assume\u00a0the Vice-Presidency of the Board of UN Women. I will honor my commitment by bolstering multilateral action and by encouraging initiatives that involve all relevant stakeholders.<\/p>\n

Today, we are proud of joining the campaign\u00a0\u201cOrange the World: End Violence against Women Now!<\/em>\u201d, to raise awareness on a few but imperative goals: preventing all forms of violence, listening to the victims and changing discriminatory social norms to promote gender equality.<\/p>\n

Today and every day, \u201cLet\u2019s UNITE!\u201d\u00a0and stand by all women and girls.\u00a0We will keep up the good fight for their right to a safe and fulfilled life.<\/p>\n
