{"id":4271,"date":"2023-02-02T17:34:03","date_gmt":"2023-02-02T16:34:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/italyun.esteri.it\/news\/dalla_rappresentanza\/2023\/02\/peacebuilding-commission-formal-meeting-on-the-new-agenda-for-peace\/"},"modified":"2023-02-02T17:45:26","modified_gmt":"2023-02-02T16:45:26","slug":"peacebuilding-commission-formal-meeting-on-the-new-agenda-for-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/italyun.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dalla_rappresentanza\/2023\/02\/peacebuilding-commission-formal-meeting-on-the-new-agenda-for-peace\/","title":{"rendered":"Peacebuilding Commission Formal Meeting on the New Agenda for Peace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Peacebuilding Commission Formal Meeting on the New Agenda for Peace<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>2 February 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Statement of Italy delivered by the Permanent Representative, Ambassador Maurizio Massari<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n<p><strong>We all have national priorities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But when it comes to peacebuilding, we must find a common ground<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We must respect the needs, the aspirations, and the proposals coming from the Countries and the communities which address the Peacebuilding Commission, <strong><u>no matter if they are in line or not with our national priorities<\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Italy, of course, believes that some topics deserve to be on top of the agenda and be at the focus of PBC\u2019s efforts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>food security<\/strong>, for its vital implications;<\/li>\n<li><strong>inclusivity<\/strong>, <strong>engagement with civil societies<\/strong> (women and youth) and promotion of the <strong>rule of law<\/strong>, as solid and reliable institutions are the backbone of trust within societies;<\/li>\n<li>the <strong>devastating effects of climate change on peace and security, <\/strong>representing for many the single greatest threat to their wellbeing, security and livelihoods<strong>;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>support to regional and sub regional organizations<\/strong> in their peacebuilding efforts;<\/li>\n<li>prioritizing the needs of <strong>the most vulnerable countries and regions<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>using PBC\u2019s convening role to speed up the implementation of the <strong>2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>increasing the funding to peacebuilding<\/strong>, also through assessed contributions, which remains an unfinished business;<\/li>\n<li>a more <strong>ambitious and structured collaboration between the Peacebuilding Commission and the Security Council<\/strong>, aligning their agendas and organizing meetings between these two bodies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yet, the starting point is respecting the national ownership and local communities, supporting their development needs.<\/p>\n<p>Colleagues,<\/p>\n<p>We need international cooperation, as opposed to fragmentation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Within and outside the Peacebuilding Commission, Italy intends to bridge this increasing, devastating divide, to restore trust, to find common grounds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We owe it to the people and the communities who turn to the Peacebuilding Commission for its support.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Peacebuilding Commission Formal Meeting on the New Agenda for Peace 2 February 2022 Statement of Italy delivered by the Permanent Representative, Ambassador Maurizio Massari &nbsp; Dear Colleagues, We all have national priorities.
