As host country of the UN Rome-based Agencies, the UN Global Service Center in Brindisi, as well as the UNPD in Rome Center, the UNICEF Innocenti in Florence, Italy is deeply committed to a multilateral system that delivers where it matters most: on the ground, close to people in need.<\/p>\n
This commitment translates into concrete action, starting from humanitarian contexts. When delivering aid in humanitarian settings, provide medical care, protection and education opportunities we work in close patnership with WFP, UNICEF, UNFPA. We contribute to UNOPS\u2019s humanitarian logistics and we support UNDP recovery and rehabilitation efforts. We have done so recently in different cases, like in a recent initiative lunch on Integrated Child Protection and Education with UNICEF, UNFPA, WFP.<\/p>\n
In all these contexts, we promote an approach based on full interagency coordination. These partnerships show what we can collectively achieve when we work together and we support country expertise, agency expertise, integrated supply chains and work together align with partner countries priority.<\/p>\n
Excellency,<\/p>\n
It is precisely because we believe in what the UN can deliver as one that Italy fully supports the UN Aid initiative, a process that we see essential to make the United Nations more efficient and fit-for-purpose, and ultimately to reinvigorate multilateralism.<\/p>\n
In our view, the UN development system should move forward toward delivery, toward the commitment of the pact to the future and toward the people we deserve.<\/p>\n
In this period, we want to support the fact that it\u2019s important to not rush the process but assess carefully the broader range of interconnected workstreams currently reshaping the UN development system – including the regional and the humanitarian reset, the reconfiguration of the Country\u2019s Team, and the recalibration of the resident system mechanism.<\/p>\n
In all these areas, you can count on Italy’s continued constructive engagement.<\/p>\n
