The 75th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations kicks off.
For the first time in the history of the Organization, world leaders will meet virtually to discuss the major issues on the global agenda, starting with the COVID19 emergency and a recovery from the crisis founded on principles of greater sustainability and resilience.
This year’s General Debate will focus on the theme "The future we want, the United Nations we need: reaffirming our collective commitment to multilateralism – confronting COVID-19 through effective multilateral action”
Among the main issues and events on the agenda of the two High-Level Weeks (21 September – 2 October):
- UN 75th anniversary and multilateralism;
- Climate action, protection of the environment and biodiversity;
- Women’s rights and gender parity, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the IV World Conference on Women (Beijing+25);
- 2030 Agenda and financing for development.
