Italy’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Giorgio Marrapodi, upon request of Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, met today with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to outline Italy’s commitment to the stabilization and reconstruction of Gaza alongside with UN agencies.

Ambassador Marrapodi has reaffirmed Italy’s full support for the 20-point plan to end the conflict in Gaza which was approved by Security Council Resolution 2803, and has reiterated our country’s commitment to actively participating in every round of talks dedicated to the Middle East peace process, in order to promote the shared goals of Hamas disarmament, the unbhindered distribution of humanitarian aid and the beginning of reconstruction. To this point, Italy’s participation as observer in the first meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington represented by Minister Tajani is fully in line with Resolution 2803, which tasks the Board of Peace with monitoring the stabilization process in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting was an opportunity to reiterate that the UN Hub in Rome and the UN Logistics Base in Brindisi are ready to carry out operations in Gaza again, as announced by Minister Tajani in Parliament. Since October 7, 2023, Italian Cooperation has mobilized a total of over €130 million for multiple initiatives to address the crisis in Gaza, and Minister Tajani recently announced the allocation of €60 million to support recovery and stabilization.
