On the margins of the 79th UN General Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani inaugurated the red bench at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the UN, that symbolizes the empty place left behind when violence against women claims another victim.

At the multilateral level, Italy is one of the main partners of UN Women, the largest global entity for women’s rights and committed to stopping the spiral of violence and discrimination that still plagues them around the world. According to UN Women, one in three women experience physical or sexual violence in her lifetime, in most cases perpetuated by her intimate partner.
