Distinguished President,
Excellencies,
Dear delegates,
It is an honor to address this Forum and reaffirm Italy’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda by describing our efforts in four main areas.
First, the implementation of the 2030 Agenda is a national responsibility, one that must be anchored in a long-term vision, supported through an inclusive dialogue, and grounded in actions at every level of governance. Our National Sustainable Development Strategy represents our roadmap and we are committed to deliver on it.
Second, sustainable development will not be achieved if fragmented efforts are set in place. Strengthening policy coherence is essential to prevent conflicting outcomes and to ensure that progress in one area does not come at the expense of another. To this extent we have developed a national action plan to ensure alignment across ministries and policies, and with local authorities.
Third, no single actor can achieve the SDGs alone.
Our National Forum on Sustainable Development plays a critical role in ensuring meaningful participatory processes, enhancing collaboration and extensive dialogue with civil society, academia, private sector actors, youth organizations, and local authorities.
Fourth, progress on SDGs depends on our capability to decline them in every day life, in our cities and regions. Italy supports local authorities in integrating SDGs into local strategies and policies and aligning them with national strategic objectives.
It is in this spirit that, with UN-Habitat, we have launched the Partnership Platform on Localizing the SDGs and at HLPF this year 12 countries (namely Senegal, Tunisia, Capo Verde, Serbia, Tajikistan, Jordan, Finland, Costa Rica, Georgia, Zambia) and two international organisations (OECD and IOC) will formalise their participation. Collaboration in partner countries will also include the integration of sports through a strengthened collaboration with the International Olympic Committee. We invite all interested parties to join this global effort.
In concluding distinguished President,
Italy is ensuring a multi-dimensional support to global partners, with special focus on Africa through the implementation of the “Mattei Plan” and the “Rome Process”, and with Small Island States and other Countries in vulnerable situations.
At UNOC-3, Italy presented 13 voluntary commitments aimed at the protection and sustainable use of ocean and seas, for a total amount of 115 million euros, with a particular focus on the challenges faced by Youth and Small Island Developing States as well as to the needs of the Mediterranean Sea.
Finally honorable President
Next year, Italy will be presenting its third VNR with the aim to share our efforts, further strengthen our collective actions and contribute to building a better future for all while leaving no one behind.
I thank you
