PRESIDENT MATTARELLA IN NEW YORK
The President of the Republic of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, is in New York until May 7th for a visit to the United Nations.
On Monday, May 6th, President Mattarella opened the proceedings, at the United Nations Headquarters, of the Conference on the Status of Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 16 “Peace, Justice and Institutions for Sustainable Development.” The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations, the UN Secretariat and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), as part of the UN 2030 Agenda.
Following this, Mattarella will meet with staff from the Permanent Mission of Italy, Italian officials from the United Nations and, at the Metropolitan Club, members of the Italian community.
The Head of State will return in the afternoon to UNHQ for talks with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
On Tuesday, May 7th, President Mattarella will deliver a speech before the General Assembly titled “Italy, the United Nations and Multilateralism to Address Common Challenges,” preceded by a talk with UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis.
President Mattarella’s visit to New York will conclude at the Consulate General of Italy, with a meeting with its staff.
