Thank you Mr. Chair,
Italy welcomes the Chair of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, Ann SKELTON, and is thankful for sharing the outcome of the latest activities of the Committee, which point at alarming data to be acted upon and adroitly highlight the current challenges and crises children are called to face.
As we embrace a long-term approach to decision-making, we fundamentally agree with the Report’s statement that “There cannot be sustainable development or peace and security until each and every child has their rights fulfilled, respected and protected”.
Gladdened by the adoption of the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations, it is our duty to comprehensively commit to enhance unique opportunities whilst thwarting risks of the digital present, to ensure an open, free and secure digital future.
Based on the call of paragraph 40 of the UN Resolution on the “Rights of the child” we would like the Chair to acknowledge a few best practices found in both state-led and independent monitoring of the rights of the child in the digital environment, with a specific focus on new AI implementations.
Thank you.
