Milan, 29 September 2021 – “At the end of Youth4Climate you all should come up with a clear message with your ideas, proposals and suggestions. We expect strong proposals, laid out in ‘bullet points’ that can effectively explain your requests on climate change to the decision-makers “.
This is the message that the Minister of Ecological Transition Roberto Cingolani voiced this morning at the opening of the second day of the assembly which gathers in Milan four hundred young people from all over the world to discuss the climate emergency.
Tomorrow the youth delegates are expected to illustrate their proposals that result from the debate that has taken place in four workshops, with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and the Prime Minister Mario Draghi in attendance. The document produced by Youth4Climate will then be delivered to the Environment Ministers gathered in the Pre Cop as an “affidavit” of the young delegates for COP26 in Glasgow.
After his “appeal for clarity”, Minister Cingolani started a short discussion session with the young delegates gathered in the plenary assembly. Delegates have requested for reassurance that their work will be taken into consideration at Pre Cop. Cingolani assured that this will happen and that he will speak with COP president Alok Sharma about the best ways to implement Youth4Climate’s requests.
They also requested that the youth involvement in the proceeding on climate will continue after the gathering in Milan and the minister replied that the Ministry will work towards this objective.
Finally, Italy was thanked for making room at the negotiating table for the youth, especially for the young representatives of third world countries, and to let them express the needs of the disadvantaged areas of the planet.
