New York, March 2 – WOMEN RIGHTS – ITALY WITH UN WOMEN, WE DO IT TOGETHER AND A CROSS-REGIONAL GROUP OF COUNTRIES JOIN EFFORTS FOR A BIG EVENT TOMORROW NIGHT AT THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Tomorrow night the UN General Assembly will host Italy’s big event dedicated to women all over the world and devised to raise awareness on themes such as the fight against gender-based violence and discriminations, and women empowerment. At the heart of the event lies the screening of the Italian independent movie “Tell It Like a Woman”, which is running for the Best Original Song Oscar for its “Applause”.

The movie screening will be followed by a panel discussion bringing together the movie’s directors and cast, and moderated by Chiara Tilesi, founder and head of We Do It Together, the non-profit production company behind the movie.

The night will be kick-started by the opening remarks by Italy’s Permanent Representative to the UN and Vice President of UN Women Executive Board Ambassador Maurizio Massari, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Melissa Fleming, UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous, and Argentine’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Maria Del Carmen Squeff. Ambassador Squeff will be this year’s facilitator of the CSW 67 agreed conclusions, slated to start on March 6th.

The event is supported by the Permanent Missions to the UN of Argentine, United States, United Kingdom, Japan and Chile, basically all the countries from where some of the movie’s actresses hail or where the movie was shot.

The event was made possible by the support of some private sponsors, including Intesa Sanpaolo, Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment, Ferrero, Italy’s Postal Service Company “Poste Italiane”, The Pierre Hotel.
