Thank you Mr. President and thank you, Mr. Secretary-General, for this timely briefing on progress towards the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Facts are facts and they are before us all.
As the Secretary-General stated and his progress report indicated, the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs are in peril. We are at the midpoint of implementation and we are facing major, multi-dimensional and inter-connected crises that have hampered global efforts on most of the SDGs.
Despite global challenges, the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs remain our universal cornerstone.
The SDG Summit in September is a key moment and we carry a common responsibility for its success. Failure is not an option.
We need to work hard together.
Italy, as EU, G7 and G20 Member and as a major partner, contributor and donor to the UN System remains fully committed to this endeavor. Within the G20 we are working on an updated G20 Action Plan on accelerating the SDGs implementation with agreed high-level principles and measurable actions.
In order to tackle the food crisis and accelerate food systems transformation, the Italian Government has agreed to host with the UN the first Food Systems Summit Stocktaking Moment, next 24-26 of July, in Rome.
We are also stepping up our multilateral support in favour of the UN System, including by doubling our voluntary support to the UN Resident Coordinator System and by financing the UN Joint SDG Fund, in addition to our core and thematic support to all the UN Agencies, Funds and Programs.
Mr. Secretary General,
We are receiving many inputs and proposals on how to reshape multilateralism and increase impact. As we approach the SDG Summit and the other high-level meetings, we encourage working on convergences and on those solutions which unite us, in order to deliver impactful outcomes and ensure we leave no one behind.
