Thank you, Mr. Chair.

We welcome the Special Rapporteur’s report and urge States and all stakeholders to act on its recommendations.

As Youth Delegates of Italy, we recognize the transformative potential that Artificial Intelligence holds for the future of education. As highlighted in the report, AI can revolutionize learning by personalizing education and making it more accessible. However, significant barriers remain: many students, especially in rural and disadvantaged communities, lack access to the necessary technology, infrastructure, and skills. If we are to truly reimagine education around AI, we must first address these barriers to digital inclusion, by investing in digital infrastructure, ensuring affordable access to technology and the internet, and promoting AI literacy for all. In this context, distinguished Special Rapporteur, how can governments ensure that the right tools, knowledge, and funding are provided to integrate AI effectively and safely in schools?

Additionally, as national, regional and global AI frameworks are being developed, it is essential that students from different backgrounds are actively involved in these processes. Our needs, concerns, and learning preferences must be central to these conversations, because too often, decisions about education are imposed on young people without their input. Therefore, our question is: how can we ensure that new policies related to AI and education are designed with us, and not simply for us?

Thank you.

Youth Delegate Chiara Gisinti
