“La Grande Visione Italiana. La Collezione Farnesina”

img_social_ny_corr_2

“The Grand Italian Vision. The Farnesina Collection” is an enthralling journey through the history of Italian art from the 1900s to the present day, by means of 71 works selected from the extraordinary art collection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic.  The only public institution in the world to have its own art collection, built up with passion and steadfastness since the end of the Nineties, it has created today’s dynamic collection that bears witness to the wealth of a cultural heritage, dwelling within the spaces of the Palazzo della Farnesina in Rome, a setting for exhibition activity worthy of any museum.

Painting, sculpture,  photography and videos testify to the continuity and thematic variety of the various disciplines and tendencies which, in their formal arrangement, enable  us to speak of a “Grand Italian Vision”,  a grand tour through the creativity of our Country, which has always lauded an ongoing quest for new forms, in an iconographic fecundity that flourishes to this day.

An inexorable vitality, documented in this exhibition by artists who have been outstanding protagonists of the principal artistic movements in Italy, together with research initiated by the more recent generations, thus confirming the anthropology of an art that belongs to a culture, the Mediterranean culture, which has always grappled with history and nature.

The exhibition develops along a fluid yet not chronological path, in which linguistic affinities and differences between the various artists condense. Visions that range from a twentieth-century awareness to the drive towards modernity. From looking inwards to looking out, from environmental emergencies to migrations and new forms of poverty, right up to dialogue and encounter. The public is invited to experience these works directly, without any academic rigidity, letting itself flow along with the “grand Italian vision” through an exhibition project spread in different institutional places in New York.
