Thank you Excellency.
Allow me at the outset to express Italy’s appreciation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania and the Deputy Executive Director of UNFPA for their leadership in co-sponsoring with us this timely event.
Distinguished colleagues,
Just a few days ago the Pact of the Future was finally adopted. Despite all challenges, this is an important milestone to build upon.
The Pact of the Future and the SDG Summit Political Declaration provide a clear international and global consensus on acceleration measures to achieve the SDGs.
In this context, the social dimension of both these outcomes is strong and clear.
Only by investing on the full agency of women and youth and by protecting socially vulnerable people, we will be able to achieve the promise of achieving the SDGs and leave no one behind.
There are a number of specific actions in the Pact of the future prioritizing these elements and Italy is fully committing to continuing our work together, across all regions of the world, from the Balkans and the Mediterranean to Africa, from Asia-Pacific to Latin America.
This include continuing our partnerships with Countries, strengthening civil society, women and youth engagement as well as our cooperation with the UN System. In this area, UNFPA remains a key partner.
During this High-Level week and towards the beginning of the Committees season, Italy has also brought here in our official delegation the Youth Delegates, bringing the voice of Italian youth at the United Nations.
As we embark towards the next UN Social Summit in 2025, we stand ready to strengthen global action for social cohesion, social protection and sustainable development.
I thank you.
