Thank you, Mr. President, for giving me the floor, and thank you to H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock for sharing her vision today.
Italy aligns itself with the statement earlier delivered by the distinguished representative of the European Union on behalf of the European Union and its 27 Member States and would like to add some remarks in a national capacity. I will not have questions, as all topics have already been extensively addressed but I wish to express Italy’s strong support to the candidacy of H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock for the Presidency of the 80th Session of the General Assembly. We are particularly encouraged by the vision she has outlined – of a United Nations that acts “Better Together” to uphold peace, sustainability, human rights, and justice. We also strongly support the focus on inclusivity, transparency, and the full participation of women and youth. Italy is deeply committed to advancing the Women, Peace and Security agenda and to working with the UNPGA and all partners to ensure that our institutions reflect and serve the needs of present and future generations.
This year, as we mark the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations and the 70th Anniversary of Italy’s membership in the UN, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to multilateralism grounded in the UN Charter and international law. These shared milestones remind us that unity, dialogue, and cooperation remain the cornerstones of global peace and progress.
