Italy at the CSW60 (March 14 – 24, 2016)

From March 14-24, 2016, the UN hosted the 60th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women. This year’s session was organized by the Bureau, chaired by Brazil, and consisting of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Germany and Japan.

The theme for the 2016 edition was “Women’s Empowerment and its Link to Sustainable Development.” The review theme was “The Elimination and Prevention of All Forms of Violence against Women and Girls” (based on the decisions contained in the Agreed Conclusions of CSW57).

For this year’s CSW, Member States organized a total of 248 side events (155 during the first week of the event), with about 600 other parallel events organized by NGOs.

Italy’s Participation

The Italian delegation was led by the Hon. Emma Bonino, Special Envoy for CSW60, from March 14-16, and then by Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Sen. Benedetto Della Vedova, from March 17-18.

Italy organized and co-sponsored the following events:
