Foreign Minister Gentiloni in New York to Meet with the UN Membership

March 1, 2016 – Two busy days lie ahead for Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni in New York. Regional crises, the fight against violent extremism, development – with a particular focus on the implementation of the Agenda 2030 – in addition to the high profile of our Country with respect to the migration phenomenon and the situation in Libya, will be the crucial themes of the meetings with the Permanent Representatives of the African and Arab Group Countries. Minister Gentiloni will also take part in the Joint Committee on the Italy-Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Partnership, which precedes the Symposium on the Protection of the Oceans and Coastal Areas (Rome, March 7-9).

The Minister will also take part in the seminar “Beyond turmoil: challenges and opportunities in the Mediterranean” at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), one of the world’s top independent foreign policy think tanks. The challenges, opportunities and the future of the Mediterranean basin, amid regional crises, migratory emergencies and the threat of terrorism: these will be the focus of the Minister’s remarks during the discussion.
