Undersecretary of State Enzo Amendola at the UN for High-Level Meetings

New York – On May 10-12, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Enzo Amendola was at UN headquarters in New York to take part in a series of meetings and high-level events. On Tuesday, May 10, Undersecretary Amendola presided over a meeting at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the UN on “Political leadership to end and prevent conflicts” with the participation of UN permanent representatives and Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O’Brien. Undersecretary Amendola then took part in the UN General Assembly “High-Level Thematic Debate on the United Nations, Peace and Security,” where he delivered Italy’s national statement.

On May 11, the Undersecretary took part in the Security Council’s open debate on “Threats to Peace and Security Caused by Terrorist Acts.” He then resumed his participation in the General Assembly debate on “The United Nations, Peace and Security.” In the afternoon, Undersecretary Amendola joined the side event on “The Future of Civilian Protection in Peace Operations: Endorsing and Implementing the Kigali Principles,” in Conference Room 1.

On May 12, the Undersecretary also took part in the High-Level Thematic Debate on “Operationalizing the ‘Sustaining Peace’ Agenda and Review in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities,” moderated by UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson.
