PRESS RELEASE – Bianchi: “Education is the only key to more inclusive and sustainable societies”. Minister Bianchi intervened in the United Nations Transforming Education Summit

PRESS RELEASE

Rome, September 19 2022. Bianchi: “Education is the only key to more inclusive and sustainable societies”. Minister Bianchi intervened in the United Nations Transforming Education Summit

“Education is the only possible tool to tackle the global challenges we are facing and to make our societies more inclusive and sustainable”. This is an excerpt from the speech given by Italy’s Minister of Education Patrizio Bianchi during the Transforming Education Summit, the United Nations summit on Education convened by Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the opening of the UN General Assembly.

“A more just society, which places tackling global inequalities, growing gender discriminations, and climate change at the center of its action, can be built thanks to citizens who are aware of their own rights”, underlined the Minister. Education is the path to turn young men and women into the needed agents of change. Only a true and global transformation of education systems, which allow all girls and boys to access their right to education, can lead us while we address the challenges stemming from climate and sustainable growth”.

In his speech for the “Transforming Education to transform the World: Empowering global Citizens through Education for a sustainable Future” session, Minister Bianchi recalled Italy’s commitment to achieve these goals: cross-cutting teaching of civic education, the Plan for schools’ Ecological and Cultural Transition “School RiGeneration”, and especially the overhaul of the whole Italian education system that the Italian government has been carrying out this year through significant investments and the reforms on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The UN Summit is the culminating point of a six-month process, that was kicked off by National talks with more than 100 Countries involved, the launch of five Action Tracks providing detailed supporting information, where Italy was a co-leader for themes connected to inclusion, and by the Pre-Summit that took place in Paris in June under the auspices of UNESCO.

Throughout the event now underway in New York, the Minister spoke at the “Solutions Day” of the Pre-Transforming Education Summit” and will participate in the ‘Transforming Education in Africa’ scheduled for tomorrow.
