The Farnesina confirms its support to the UN Training Centre in Turin in the name of innovation. On 27 October, the Principal Director for Migration Issues and International Mobility, Minister Plenipotentiary Stefano Bianchi, inaugurated the Innovation Lab of the International Training Centre (ITC) of the International Labour Organization (ILO) together with the newly-elected ILO Director-General, Gilbert Houngbo, and the Mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo. The new Lab, which relies on advanced training techniques with the use of virtual and augmented reality, is housed in the pavilions of the renewed UN campus also thanks to an extraordinary contribution of EUR 3 million from the Farnesina.

The Centre has brilliantly overcome the pandemic crisis by launching distance learning also thanks to new technologies. With over 130,000 participants, the ITC is the ILO and UN System’s training hub. Going back to face-to-face courses favours the arrival of tens of thousands of participants in Turin, an expression of the labour market in many Countries, contributing to an increasingly international dimension in Turin.

On 27 and 28 October, the annual ITC Board meeting was held; Italy participated as a member by right and renewed its full support to the ongoing development of the Centre, a pole of excellence in the field of training on labour issues, in agreement with the local institutions, first of all the Municipality of Turin and the Piedmont Region.
