Thank you very much Madame chair,
Let me thank the Ministers of Qatar, Rwanda and the Secretary-General for his remarks,
Italy aligns itself with the statement delivered by the European Union.
In our national capacity, we reaffirm the urgent need to recommit to gender equality—now more than ever.
This urgency is particularly evident as we mark the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, while still striving to fully implement its commitments.
Italy has taken concrete steps to advance gender equality, including through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the National Strategy for Gender Equality 2021-2026. These frameworks aim to enhance women’s participation in the labour market and increase their representation in leadership roles.
To foster a more equitable work environment, Italy has introduced initiatives, such as the National Gender Equality Certification System for companies and the Corporate Code in Support of Maternity. Women-led businesses continue to be a driving force in the Italian economy, with a significant share of enterprises led by women.
Recognizing the urgent need to combat gender-based violence, Italy has strengthened its legal framework to better protect victims and ensure effective prevention and response mechanisms.
More broadly, Italy embraces a comprehensive approach to gender equality, moving beyond sector-specific interventions to align with the Beijing Declaration and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The government remains committed to promoting women’s workforce participation and fostering a cultural shift that enables career advancement without compromising maternity.
While progress has been made, significant challenges remain—particularly in tackling gender-based violence and achieving full equality across all sectors of society.
Italy is therefore fully committed, both nationally and through multilateral cooperation, to:
- Developing new legislative measures
- Ensuring the effective application of the law to drive real progress
- Enhancing data collection to track progress, draw lessons, and accelerate policies that respond to the evolving needs of our societies
Through these efforts, Italy aims to build a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable society for all.
I thank you.
