Discorso pronunciato dall’Ambasciatore Inigo Lambertini, Vice Rappresentante Permanente dell’Italia presso le Nazioni Unite, al meeting di Alto Livello della Peacebuilding Commission sul Gambia —
I would like to thank you for your presence here today and for chairing this important meeting and thank the Romanian Presidency of the Peacebuilding Commission for organizing it.
We’re really honored of your presence today, Your excellency, since your Country represents how the implementation of peacebuilding and sustaining peace agenda must by a priority for all of us.
The concepts of Prevention, international and regional coordination, UN strong engagement-also throughout this Commission, whose incredible work I would like to commend today-, and a constant and committed political dialogue, which have so well served in overcoming the political crisis in your Country, are deep-rooted in the peacebuilding and sustaining peace paradigm and your experience must serve as a role-model in this sense.
At this stage, we cannot relent our efforts in supporting the realization of a full and inclusive development for the Gambia. We welcome the National Development Plan, in particular the emphasis placed by the documents on youth and women empowerment.
These are the living force of the Nation and from our perspective in the past years we have seen too many of them losing their lives in the desert or in the Mediterranean sea looking for a better future.
Italy confirms its engagement toward the Gambia and we’ll stand side by side with the Gambia and its people to accomplish the mission given by President Barrow, starting from the meeting the European Union will host next month in Brussels.
